James L. Pursley joined Hochschild, Bloom & Company LLP in August 2004 and worked at various staff levels until being promoted to Partner in 2016. Prior to joining the Firm he worked at another local St. Louis CPA firm. Since joining the Firm, Mr. Pursley has overseen numerous compilation, review, audit, taxation, and consulting engagements for various clients of the Firm. His current duties with the Firm include managing engagements, professional staff supervision and development, accounting and tax research, review of client accounting and operating procedures, business development, and Firm administration. His areas of concentration include tax planning and consulting for individuals and closely-held businesses. He also leads many of the Firm’s audit practice areas of employee benefit plans, governmental, and nonprofit organizations.
Educational Background And Certification
Mr. Pursley graduated from Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. Mr. Pursley passed the November 2003 CPA examination and received his CPA certificate (license #2004011820) from the Missouri State Board of Accountancy in February 2004.
Mr. Pursley participates in various professional development courses sponsored by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA), and in-house courses. For the past several years, he has consistently exceeded the requirements of the profession. His education has included accounting, auditing, taxation, governmental, employee benefit plans, and management development.
Mr. Pursley is a member of the MSCPA and serves on its Accounting and Auditing Committee and Technical Issues Group. Mr. Pursley is also a current member of the AICPA. Mr. Pursley is a business partner with the Medical Group Management Association of greater St. Louis.
